The Shirtdress

'

I've been obsessing over this Alexander Wang bag for the past few months, and I finally splurged and got it. I love the simple and minimalistic look of the bag - there's just enough to make it unique, but still simple enough to not be over the top. My favorite part is the magnetic top open that allows for super easy access, and the black matte hardware at the bottom of the bag.

On the hot Spring days we get here in LA, a simple shift dress is more than you'll ever need. I love this simplicity and effortlessness of this shirtdress - I can just throw it on and be ready to leave the house. I'm a big advocate for easy and chic clothing options. Lately, I've found myself drifting towards very simple and minimalist pieces. I think there is something very beautiful in a piece's most basic form. Style and beauty can sometimes be lost in the noise of the current trend, but very simple cuts will always be a classic, you see this time after time on the runway. Also, people have always said "less is more".  Not sure if that makes sense to you...but I'll leave you with this quote: “Minimalism is not defined by what is not there but by the rightness of what is and the richness with which this is experienced.” - John Pawson

Sweater Weather

Can't believe that spring is already here! We barely had a "winter" here in LA, for most people that is fine, but I have always been a fan of the cooler days. I have been wanting to wear an all white outfit all winter long, but the weather never really permitted it. So when it dropped below 70 degrees this past weekend, I took advantage of the cool air and wore my cozy Spencer & Graham cashmere sweater. I love the sweater so much, that I have it in multiple colors. It feels like being wrapped up in the softest blankets you can imagine.

Unintentionally, my nails kind of matched my outfit, with a frosty silver and a very light nude color. Although it obviously looks like spring time in the background of my pictures, I love how the beige, silver, white, and blue reminds me of winter....perfect transitional outfit ;)

Peter Pilotto For Target

Hello again! If you read my last blog post then you'll know that I spent a Saturday night few weeks ago constantly refreshing Target's site and waiting for the Peter Pilotto for Target collaboration to go live. Well I finally received everything in the mail last week! I was really excited for this collection, because Peter Pilotto is known for their intense psychedelic prints and feminine sculptural shapes. Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos are both excellent at what they do, Pilotto for his vibrant prints and De Vos for his draping and silhouettes. Together they create beautiful pieces of wearable art...I seriously feel like I can hang one of his dresses on my wall. I'm currently coveting this dress. While that dress is a little out of my budget right now, I was definitely able to afford their collaboration with Target (+1 for Target collabs!). I also might have gotten a little carried away...there was an awkward moment when I realized I bought all the skirts from his collection (oopsies!).

With this outfit I wanted to focus the attention on the skirt, so I paired the skirt with a black Zara top and black Rag & Bone booties. By wearing black everything else, you create a black canvas for the skirt to really stand out against. Since I live in the oh so sunny California, I can get away with wearing this outfit during this time of the year. For those of you lucky enough to experience all four seasons, I would add on some black tights and throw on a jacket and coat to stay warm.

Did you guys get anything from the Peter Pilotto for Target collection? I would love to see what you got and how you styled it! :)

Here's A Little Heart For You

I couldn't help but put together a Valentine's Day outfit to share with you guys. The skirt I'm wearing has a little sentimental value to me, and I thought this will be the perfect post to share it with you.

I don't know about you, but I love Valentine's Day, even when I don't have a significant other. With chocolate, flowers, and little hearts and other cutesy things everywhere, I can't help but love it. While Valentine's Day is traditionally reserved for couples to celebrate their love and relationship, I don't see why you can't extend it to include your families and friends. There are definitely more than one type of love.

If you are anything like me, you're probably thinking you have nothing to wear to dinner this Friday and you need to get a dress. I always try to find an excuse to buy new clothes...birthday, graduation, Valentine's day, you name it, and I probably have already used that excuse. But this year, I decided to go digging all the way back in my closet for something special and I found this skirt that I bought six years ago...on Valentines Day! Of course, I ended up wearing it to an early dinner that night with two of my best friends, and then later that night to spend some time with this one guy (see the more than one type of love thing going on here?).

What will you be wearing this Valentine's Day? If you dare, I challenge you to find something in your closet and rework it to fit your special night. It doesn't matter if you are going out with you boyfriend, husband, or even friends! I'll love to see your pictures, so make sure you tag me @trailofdetails.

Oh, P.S.!
Like a crazy lady, I spend most of Saturday waiting for the Peter Pilotto for Target collaboration to go sale. Most of the night was spent refreshing the page and yelling at my twitter feed. In between refreshing and yelling, I somehow found time to paint my nails matte red, and in the spirit of Valentine's Day I added a little white heart on my ring fingers. Ever since then I couldn't get Lenka's song 'Don't Let Me Fall' out of my head. I know...this is one of the most random train of thoughts ever, but thats just me. Also, I want to share the song with you :)

Lacey Little Things

Whenever I'm in a hurry to get dress but still want to look slightly put together, one of my go to outfit is always a dress and a jacket. I love how the structure of the blazer balances off the flowliness of the dress. Since lingerie inspired fashion is very popular right now, I opted for this black lacey slip inspired dress and a blazer. I feel like this little ensemble is so simple but yet gives you a very effortless chic style.

Living in Los Angeles I can pretty much get away with keeping my wardrobe about the same year round. While this outfit is perfectly fine in LA weather, I would style this dress with a sweater and boots if I live in a colder city.
